How it started...

Happy Rock Farm started as a alpaca fiber farm in 2019 in Gladstone ND with 22 adorable alpacas. Between tours and a small farm store we were able to educate thousands of people on the benefits of alpaca fiber. Hosting special events and Harvest Host camping it became clear we were out of room to grow. A couple of sheep, goats, chickens, ducks, rabbits, dogs and cats later. We quickly outgrew our 5 acres in Gladstone and purchased a larger 20 acre lot for our animals in Dickinson.

With the larger property we were able expand into horse boarding. The property also allowed us to foster and rescue farm animals that needed a good home. We love to share our alpaca knowledge through agritourism and events but also saw the need for equine services in southwest North Dakota so we combined the two!

Caring for our farm animals is important because it connects us to a simpler, more grounded way of life while teaching responsibility, compassion, and respect for living creatures. These animals provide more than just fresh eggs, milk, or wool — they bring joy, companionship, and a sense of purpose to daily routines. Looking after them encourages mindfulness and patience, reminding us that every creature relies on us for their well-being. For families, hobby farming offers valuable lessons to children about hard work, empathy, and where food truly comes from. In many ways, caring for farm animals enriches both our lives and our communities, fostering a deeper appreciation for nature and sustainable living. We open our farm for special events through out the year.
